Tricker Tops Round Six of WMX at High Point Raceway
Marissa Markelon takes over points lead.
Yamaha’s Mackenzie Tricker swept both motos of round six of the Women’s Motocross Championship Series to claim her first overall victory of the season at High Point Raceway this weekend in Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania. It was runner-up finisher Marissa Markelon, however, who benefitted the most from the High Point race by taking over the series points lead. After posting 2-2 moto finishes, the Kawasaki rider overtook Team Green Kawasaki’s Kylie Fasnacht in the standings thanks to Fasnacht’s (3-6) fifth-pace finish at High Point.
Thanks to great starts, Tricker jumped into the lead early on in both motos, while Markelon worked her way into second after starting in the top three or four in each moto.
Tricker cruised to two relatively easy wins, while Markelon was content to settle for the runner-up slot.
“Mackenzie was riding really good,” said Markelon. “So I just rode behind her in both motos because I saw that Kylie (Fasnacht) was having bike problems and I knew that Mackenzie was out of the points, so I wasn’t worried about her winning the overall since it wouldn’t have a big affect on the overall points.”
With six rounds in the books, Markelon leads the series standings with 260 points, followed by Fasnacht with 257. Meanwhile, Tricker moved into third with 217 points after taking the win, ahead of Kaitlyn Morrow’s total of 208.
“It’s kind of turning out like last year,” said Markelon. “We just have two races left and it’s going to boil down to whichever one of us wins those races, so it’s going to be an exciting finish.”
Round seven takes place on June 5th at Red Bud Raceway in Buchanan, Michigan. For more information on the WMX series check out http://racewmx.com.
