Interview from Dirt Rider

While in Las Vegas for the final round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series, Dirt Rider ran into current WMX (Women’s Motocross Series) point leader Mackenzie Tricker of Australia. Tricker is here in the States solely for the purpose of contesting the WMX series with the backing of Yamaha and she has her sights on the series championship.

We spoke with Tricker about her year so far and her plans for the future.

Q: What are you doing in Vegas this weekend?

A: I’m just here hangin’ out, basically. I’ve been staying with Jessica Patterson and she raced the Endurocross last night and I wanted to support her, so I came out with her. Plus, everyone in the industry is here in Vegas, so I thought it was a good opportunity, it’s always good to catch up with sponsors. I’m staying on the east coast and a lot of them are based on the west coast so this was a good chance to meet up with some of them.

Q: What did you think of the Endurocross?

A: It was crazy. It looks a lot easier on TV than it is in real life; it’s gnarly and I have a lot of respect for all those guys; some of the girls that were giving it a shot last night were having a bit of trouble. It was interesting and it’s something I might want to do on down the road.

Q: We’ve heard rumors that you might try one of the rounds of the GNCC series.

A: Yeah, I’m thinking about racing Loretta Lynn’s next weekend, mainly because I like Loretta’s; the atmosphere is amazing. It would be cool to race my first GNCC, but it’s not a priority, so if it doesn’t happen now it’s no big deal. But at some point I’d like to try it just to see… I might love it, you never know, so we’ll see how it goes.

Q: There’s a lot of time between the WMX rounds, what are you doing in your spare time?

A: I have to go home in August to renew my visa, we’re working on a proper athlete’s visa, but that takes a lot of time. In between races I’ve been training at Club MX and riding with Jessica and some of the off-road riders in the area. I’m staying in Travelers Rest, South Carolina, near Randy Hawkins’ complex, so Paul Whibley and Jordan Ashburn are in the area. I’ve also been doing some Loretta qualifiers, and the regionals are next month, so I am always racing.
