Team Green Kawasaki’s Kylie Fasnacht swept both motos en route to the overall win this weekend’s extremely muddy JS7 Spring Championship and WMX race, round two of the AMA Women’s Motocross Championship (WMX) in Wortham, Texas.

Due to heavy rains, the Freestone course was shortened for all the races, cut almost in half from the normal track, and in moto one, defending series champ Team Green’s Marissa Markelon took the early lead over Fasnacht and at one point held nearly an 18-second lead before getting taken out by a lapper.

“I was down for about a minute and by the time I got going I was in fifth,” said Markelon. “Fortunately I was able to work my way back up into second ahead of Tricker and Dyess.”

Fasnacht took control of things when Markelon went down, and like she did at round one in Daytona, the Kawasaki rider rode home with the easy win, with Markelon rebounding for second and Yamaha’s Mackenzie Tricker finishing third. Kawasaki-mounted Brinsley Dyess was fourth, while Honda’s Tarah Gieger rounded out the top five.

“It was a swamp out there and they cut the track down a lot,” said Markelon. “It was mainly one-lined and you couldn’t stray from the main line or you might end up in a deep hole.”

In the second moto, Tricker grabbed the holeshot ahead of Fasnacht and Markelon. Fasnacht was quickly able to take the lead away from Tricker and then held off a strong challenge from Markelon for most of the remainder of the race to take her second moto win of the day, although Markelon was not far behind.

“In the second moto, I had the speed and I had the fastest lap time,” said Markelon. “I was on her rear tire most of the time, and I would put a wheel in there, but there was just no place to pass.”

After two rounds, Fasnacht holds the championship points lead with a perfect score of 100 points through the first two rounds. Markelon sits in second place with 84 points, and Tricker sits eight points back in third.
