Millington, MI. (September 1, 2014) – Kylie Fasnacht swept both motos en route to the overall win this weekend’s Baja Brawl, round five of the AMA Women’s Motocross Championship at Baja Acres Motocross Park in Millington, Michigan.
The win was Fasnacht’s first of the season and it moved the Suzuki rider into contention for the 2014 WMX title, with points leader Mackenzie Tricker absent from this weekend’s race due to a scheduling conflict.
Fasnacht led every lap of the eight-lap first moto, taking the win over Amanda Maheu and Marissa Markelon. However, the Suzuki rider from Florida had to come from third place on the opening lap before taking the lead on lap four and holding it to the finish.
Fasnacht’s 1-1 finished marked her first overall victory of the season.
Markelon went 3-2 for second overall. The New Haven Motorsport-backed Kawasaki rider ran second to Fasnacht early in the first moto, but fell on lap four and was all the way back in seventh by the time she got going. The Connecticut rider worked her way back up into third by the end of the race.
In the second moto, Markelon was in second behind early leader Maheu, but when both riders went down in a bowl turn on lap four, allowing Fasnacht to take the lead.
Markelon was able to rebound to claim second for the moto, with Maheu in third.
Maheu’s 2-3 was good for third overall, while Michigan’s Bryce Martinez (Hon) was a consistent 4-4 for fourth overall, and Wisconsin’s Danielle West (Yam) scored a 5-for fifth overall.
The AMA Women’s Motocross Championship returns to action on October 5th for round six of the series at Englishtown, New Jersey’s KROC Raceway Park.
